Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Packers' beat writer Jim Owczarski joined the Steve Czaban Show Thursday morning to talk about the somewhat surprising retention of Mike Pettine as defensive coordinator for the Packers. After head coach Matt LaFleur's tepid endorsement of Pettine in his season ending press conference Wednesday, many believed Pettine was on his way out. Later Wednesday, ESPN reported that Pettine would be back next season. Since LaFleur will not have any more public availability for a while, the media is left to speculate how Pettine remained on staff. Did LaFleur want to make a change but President Mark Murphy said no? Or did LaFleur simply want to keep him and had to sell Murphy on Pettine?
