Analysis: Matt LaFleur as the new Packers head coach

Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reacts to the news of the Packers' reported hiring of Matt LaFleur as head coach, and describes how his hire could change the way the team looks as soon as this offseason.

Owczarski says LaFleur only gave one interview, and that was to the Packers. LaFleur's past work with top quarterbacks and imaginative offenses are probably the biggest factors in the hire.

One of the positives in the hire is that the Packers will be able to retain the services of Mike Pettine, who will return as defensive coordinator in 2019. That means that it's not a wholesale turnover of the coaching staff, which underwent significant upheaval last offseason as a last-ditch effort to generate momentum going into 2018.
