Packers RBs will be involved in the passing game in 2019

With new head coach Matt LaFleur in the fold, Packers running backs can expect to become much more involved in the passing game this season after accounting for just one receiving touchdown in all of 2018.

Maggie Loney of Cheesehead TV writes that an emphasis this offseason has been placed on the pass game and how it will involve the running backs:

During organized team activities and minicamp, Jones explained that pass-catching was something he emphasized during his offseason training. The reason why is pretty clear. It’s an element of the team’s offense that was sorely missing the last few seasons.

One of the biggest reasons is the experience of the new head coach:

LaFleur has been around explosive offenses for most of his NFL career, and running backs have always played a role in those offenses, both as part of the ground game (obviously), and the receiving game.

Loney adds that in addition to Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams at running back, fullback Danny Vitale played H-back in college and hauled in 135 passes in four seasons at Northwestern.
