Marquette improves to 14-0 at home, defeats DePaul 79-69

Markus Howard nearly notched a double-double, Theo John achieved the feat, and Marquette turned away DePaul 79-69 on Wednesday night to improve to 14-0 at home and 17-3 on the season.

Howard had 23 points and nine assists, while Theo John scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and had six blocked shots in the Golden Eagles' Big East win.

Sam Hauser added 19 points and Joey Hauser had 14.

DePaul got four players into double figures, led by Paul Reed with 18 points. Reed also had 11 rebounds.

Marquette remains a half-game behind Villanova in the Big East standings, but both Villanova and Marquette enjoy a comfortable place atop the standings. Eight of the conference's teams have four losses, and only Marquette and Villanova have a winning conference record.

The Golden Eagles play at Xavier on Saturday at 1 p.m.
