Corey Knebel elects surgery, will miss 2019 season

Former All-Star Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Corey Knebel will miss the 2019 season as he is set to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a damaged UCL.

Knebel made the announcement on Friday to reporters at Miller Park.

"Tough [decision]," said Knebel. "I've had the information now for a week."

Reports surfaced during spring training that Knebel had an injury, confirmed by manager Craig Counsell, who said Knebel was trying to pitch through it.

Knebel indicated that his surgery will be on Wednesday. Typical recovery time is one year.

Knebel threw 55.1 innings during the regular season last year with 16 saves and 88 strikeouts. He had 10 strikeouts in 10 innings with a 0.90 ERA in last year's postseason run.
