A 66-year-old guy from Illinois OPENED FIRE at a congressional baseball team practice in Alexandria, Virginia yesterday morning, just outside D.C.
The shooter was killed, but hopefully everyone else will be okay. A GOP Congressman from Louisiana named Steve Scalise was shot in the hip. He's the House Majority Whip, and was a big Trump supporter during the campaign. As of last night, he was still in critical condition. Doctors say he'll need more operations.
Three other people were also hit: A cop, an aide, and a lobbyist. Last night, the lobbyist was also still in critical condition.
The gunman was 66-year-old James Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois, near St. Louis. He was shot by police and died in custody. Apparently, he hated Trump, and volunteered for the Bernie Sanders campaign last year. Bernie spoke out after the shooting, and said he was "sickened" by it when he found out. (Here's video.)
As of last night, Thursday's baseball game was still scheduled to go on . . . although it will probably turn into a tribute. If it was just a recreational game, they'd probably just cancel it, but it's a charity game that raises money for children.
